The Fall of the Roman Empire

(1964)Directed by Anthony Mann188 minDrama, History, War
“Never before a spectacle like the fall of the Roman empire”

Livius (Stephen Boyd), a general loyal to Rome, wants the dying emperor to name him successor, while Lucilla (Sophia Loren) wants her brother Commodus (Christopher Plummer) kept from the throne. In 180 A.D., with Germanic tribes gathering in the north, Marcus Aurelius (Alec Guinness) must choose between his son and his soldier. Anthony Mann puts a whole empire on the table, and Commodus, hungry for power, is already reaching for it.
