The Fallen Idol

“The suspense is almost unbearable…”

In a large London embassy, the young son of an ambassador spends his days in the company of Baines (Ralph Richardson), the butler he worships. Phillipe (Bobby Henrey) stumbles onto a secret Baines is keeping, and soon he is watching grown-ups lie in front of him, with Mrs. Baines (Sonia Dresdel) in the house. Carol Reed shoots much of it from a child's height, so the staircases and doorways loom over the boy.
