Geremia (Giacomo Rizzo) is an aging tailor and money lender who lives in a shabby house with his scornful, bedridden mother. He is mean and stingy, and he lends cash to buy himself a place in other people's lives, calling himself the family friend. Paolo Sorrentino follows him when Saverio (Gigi Angelillo) asks for a loan to pay for his daughter Rosalba's wedding, and Geremia, who has never given anything away, catches sight of her and wants her.
