“Based on an actual lie.”

The whole family knows Nai Nai (Zhao Shuzhen) has only a short time left, and the one person who doesn't is Nai Nai herself. Billi (Awkwafina), a New Yorker who flies to Changchun to see her, is told to say nothing while a hurried wedding brings everyone home. Lulu Wang keeps Billi at the edge of the banquet tables, watching her grandmother laugh and unable to tell her why she came.
