When the widow who owns it puts the field up for public auction, "Bull" McCabe (Richard Harris) tells the village no one will bid against him. The McCabes have worked that ground for generations, and he means to keep it, even after a wealthy American arrives wanting it for a highway. Jim Sheridan shot it almost entirely in the Connemara village of Leenaun, letting the weather and the stone walls close in on the family.
