Claressa "T-Rex" Shields (Ryan Destiny) grows up in Flint, Michigan, in a house fractured by her father's absence and her mother's struggle. Her trainer Jason Crutchfield (Brian Tyree Henry) sees a boxer in her at the gym: a girl with her fists up, ready to fight her way out. Rachel Morrison frames Shields' path toward the 2012 Olympics with the specificity of a fighter's daily work, sweat and doubt and the small moments of grace that keep her moving forward.
