The Fire Within
Alain Leroy (Maurice Ronet) has been dried out at a clinic and cleared to leave, yet he cannot say what he is supposed to go back to. He spends a day visiting friends, acquaintances and women, looking for one reason to keep going. Louis Malle sets Erik Satie's piano pieces against Alain's slow walk through the city, so each visit plays quietly and nobody quite looks at him.
