The Flame and the Arrow

(1950)Directed by Jacques Tourneur88 minAdventure, History
“All the adventure a man can live, he lives.”

Somewhere in medieval Lombardy, a Roman ruin has become the headquarters of Dardo Bartoli (Burt Lancaster), whose band of followers is working to break the hold of their Hessian conquerors. Jacques Tourneur follows his insurgency against the hated Count "The Hawk" Ulrich (Frank Allenby) and the noblewoman Anne de Hesse (Virginia Mayo). Everything is in Technicolor, the old stone and the Hessian banners printed in bright reds and blues.
