The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice

A coolness has settled between Mokichi Satake (Shin Saburi), a plain-spoken man from the country, and his wife Taeko (Michiyo Kogure), a Tokyo society woman he married through an arranged match. Their niece Setsuko (Keiko Tsushima) watches the strain at home and uses it as her reason to skip the arranged interviews meant for her. Yasujirō Ozu is looking at what a long marriage asks of two people who were never really chosen for each other.
