“Is he a spy? A security risk? Is he unfaithful? Or is he a nice, normal shnook - out to make a million bucks by sheer accident!”

A football player flattens Harry Hinkle (Jack Lemmon), a TV cameraman, on the sideline, and Harry wakes up in a hospital bed. His brother-in-law Willie Gingrich (Walter Matthau), a lawyer who chases ambulances, smells a million dollars and talks him into exaggerating the damage. Billy Wilder's comedy is about how quickly a decent man will lie once the money gets big enough, and who gets hurt by it.
