The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

(1921)Directed by Rex Ingram156 minWar, Romance, Drama
“AN EPIC OF REALISM With its great scenes of Argentine-its intimate views of Parisian life-its titanic battle scenes-its massive settings-its tremendous realism-its faithful reproduction of the vital story-its mighty drama-its soul stirring romance.”

When the old patriarch Madariaga (Pomeroy Cannon) dies, his two daughters take their families out of Argentina, one to France and one to Germany. Julio Desnoyers (Rudolph Valentino) and his father Marcelo (Josef Swickard) settle in Paris, while the German cousins, including Karl von Hartrott (Alan Hale), build their lives across the border. Rex Ingram's silent epic puts the war at the family's door, and the cousins now stand on opposite sides of it.
