On a hardscrabble farm in rural Ontario, Jill Banford (Sandy Dennis) and Ellen March (Anne Heywood) have made a working life together, just the two of them and the animals. Mark Rydell's debut brings Paul Grenfell (Keir Dullea), a sailor, into that closed-off world. Ellen is caught between the friend she has lived beside for years and the feelings Paul stirs up, and she has no words for any of it.
