The Friends of Eddie Coyle

(1973)Directed by Peter Yates102 min · RCrime, Drama, Thriller
“It’s a grubby, violent, dangerous world. But it’s the only world they know. And they’re the only friends Eddie has.”

Someone in Boston keeps selling guns to a crew of bank robbers, and Eddie "Fingers" Coyle (Robert Mitchum), an aging hood facing a prison term, is the man supplying them. He is also quietly passing word on stolen weapons to a federal agent, Dave Foley (Richard Jordan), hoping it buys him out of the sentence. Peter Yates films it on gray Boston streets, in parking lots and cheap bars, and keeps the camera flat and close to the men.
