The Ghost Goes West

(1935)Directed by René Clair95 minRomance, Comedy, Fantasy
“The most romantic ghost you've ever seen!”

Peggy Martin (Jean Parker), the daughter of a wealthy American businessman, wants the old Scottish castle that Donald Glourie (Robert Donat) is selling, ghost included. Her father Joe (Eugene Pallette) buys it, and René Clair, making his first English-language film, follows the castle as it is taken apart stone by stone and shipped to Florida. The kilt-wearing spirit comes along for the crossing, a restless figure among the crated walls.
