The Girl with the Needle

Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne) is pregnant, out of work and nearly out of money in Copenhagen in 1919 when Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm), a calm older woman, takes her in. Dagmar runs an adoption agency from the shadows, finding homes for the children of mothers who cannot keep them, and she brings Karoline into the work. Magnus von Horn films it in stark black and white, so the dread comes from the faces and the rooms.
