The Girl with the Red Scarf

“Was that love? What is love?”

In a remote village where a dam is going up, İlyas (Kadir İnanır), a truck driver from Istanbul, meets a young local woman named Asya (Türkan Şoray). They fall hard for each other and marry, but the marriage is troubled from early on, and it ends up sending Asya out on the road with her son and no destination. Atıf Yılmaz, adapting a short story by Chinghiz Aitmatov, keeps the camera close on Şoray's face and lets her carry the film.
