The Girls

Liz (Bibi Andersson) wants to play Lysistrata and be believed, even by audiences who barely follow the play. Mai Zetterling follows her, Marianne (Harriet Andersson) and Gunilla (Gunnel Lindblom) on a tour of Sweden, where the stage roles and the women's own marriages start to run together. Her version of Aristophanes asks plainly what it costs a woman to refuse a man's terms.
