The Go-Between

(1971)Directed by Joseph Losey116 min · PGDrama, Romance
“In those days, you fell in love with your own class. Or found a Go-Between.”

Leo Colston (Dominic Guard) is a schoolboy spending the summer on a country estate, and he wants badly to please Marian (Julie Christie), the beautiful young woman who has taken him in. So he carries her sealed letters across the fields to Ted Burgess (Alan Bates), the farmer next door. Joseph Losey sets this around 1900 and keeps Leo caught between two worlds he cannot read, a boy who thinks he is only helping.
