The Gold Rush
“The World's Greatest Laughing Picture!”
Alaska, in the cold, crowded days of the Klondike gold rush, where prospectors file up the mountain in a long dark line. Charlie Chaplin directs himself as the Lone Prospector, a small man in a battered hat who has to survive the elements and the likes of Big Jim (Mack Swain) and Black Larsen (Tom Murray). He also hopes to win over a dance hall girl, and the film holds him in the snow, hungry and still looking for her.
