The Golden Bowl
“From the novel by Henry James”
In the Europe of the early 1900s, the American widower Adam Verver (Nick Nolte) and his daughter Maggie (Kate Beckinsale) live among the art he collects. Maggie marries the penniless Prince Amerigo (Jeremy Northam), and Adam marries her friend Charlotte Stant (Uma Thurman), a pairing that seems to settle everyone comfortably. James Ivory films Maggie at the center of it, a quiet figure standing among the paintings.
