A Tibetan boy with mystical powers has been snatched by Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance), and in Los Angeles a priestess named Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis) goes looking for the one man who can find him. Chandler Jarrell (Eddie Murphy) is a social worker known for tracing missing children, and he does not believe her. Michael Ritchie sets the kidnapping against the fate of humankind, so every hour Chandler spends doubting is an hour the boy runs short of time.
