The Golem: How He Came into the World
Rabbi Loew (Albert Steinrück) wants to keep the Jews of sixteenth-century Prague safe from the persecution closing in on the ghetto. He turns to sorcery and shapes a giant figure from clay, the Golem (Paul Wegener), then brings it to life. Carl Boese and Paul Wegener build the crooked, crowded streets as a place where people are caught between their fear of power and their need for it.
