Blondie (Clint Eastwood) is a gunslinger moving through the Civil War. He crosses paths with Tuco Ramirez (Eli Wallach), a bandit full of talk and hunger, and Sentenza (Lee Van Cleef), a killer who takes no pleasure in anything but the work itself. The three of them chase a buried treasure across sun-scorched towns, each certain he'll be the one to claim it. Leone fills the frame with faces held in close-up and lets the landscape dwarf them.
