The Goodbye Girl

Paula McFadden (Marsha Mason) comes home to find her boyfriend gone and a stranger holding the lease on her Manhattan apartment. The stranger is Elliot Garfield (Richard Dreyfuss), a struggling off-Broadway actor, and Paula and her 10-year-old daughter Lucy (Quinn Cummings) have nowhere else to go. Herbert Ross directs Neil Simon's script, and he keeps the three of them in close quarters, trading lines across one cramped apartment.
