The Gospel According to St. Matthew

“A Motion Picture which will be seen by the entire world - up to the end of the world!”

A young woman, Maria (Margherita Caruso), is found to be pregnant before her marriage to Giuseppe (Marcello Morante). Years later, Cristo (Enrique Irazoqui) walks a rocky, barren coastline teaching in parables, and the men who follow him find him stern and brusque. Pier Paolo Pasolini takes the words straight from the Gospel of Matthew, and Cristo says them as if every day he has left were already counted.
