The Grand Manoeuvre

(1955)Directed by René Clair106 minComedy, Romance

Nobody in the garrison town can say which girl Lieutenant Armand de la Verne (Gérard Philipe) will pick, only that he has bet he can seduce whoever he likes. Then Marie-Louise Rivière (Michèle Morgan), a Parisian divorcee unlike anyone he has met, enters his path. René Clair, shooting in colour for the first time, leaves the lieutenant in a provincial town just before the First World War, his wager still hanging over him.
