The Great Ambition

Enrico Berlinguer (Elio Germano) leads the Italian Communist Party, the largest in the Western world, and in 1973 he survives an attack by the Bulgarian secret services. He sets out to bring his party into government through democratic means, which puts him across the table from Giulio Andreotti (Paolo Pierobon). Andrea Segre follows him from the trips to Moscow through to 1978, keeping to the meetings and negotiations rather than the speeches.
