The Great Dictator

(1940)Directed by Charlie Chaplin125 minComedy, War
“Once again - the whole world laughs!”

Adenoid Hynkel (Charlie Chaplin) rules Tomania with a bellowing voice and plans to expand his empire. Across the city, a Jewish barber, also Chaplin, just wants to keep his shop and stay out of the regime's way. Chaplin, who kept making silent pictures long after sound arrived, made this his first true talkie, and he gives Hynkel a gibberish rant to fill the sound.
