The Great Escape

“Put a fence in front of these men... and they'll climb it!”

The Germans gather every Allied prisoner with a record of escape and lock them together in a new camp they call escape-proof. Bartlett (Richard Attenborough), known as Big X, sets the men to work on one huge plan, while Hendley (James Garner) scrounges supplies and Hilts (Steve McQueen) keeps landing in the cooler. John Sturges gives each man his own job and lets the planning unfold in small, patient detail.
