The Great McGinty

(1940)Directed by Preston Sturges82 minComedy
“It's Two-Fisted FUN! A fightin' fool gives you laughter of a lifetime..!”

A man tells his story from behind a bar, and it begins with a Depression-era bum who got handed a few dollars to vote under other people's names. Dan McGinty (Brian Donlevy) is so good at it that the city's political machine, run by the Boss (Akim Tamiroff), keeps promoting him. Preston Sturges has the Boss arrange a marriage for Dan to honest Catherine (Muriel Angelus), a convenience on paper that neither of them expected to matter.
