The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis), a white-suited daredevil, talks the car makers of the early 1900s into backing a race from New York to Paris, west across America, the Bering Strait and Russia. His rival Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon), all black clothes and waxed mustache, swears to beat him in a car of his own invention. Blake Edwards sets them off in Technicolor, Leslie's spotless white suit against Fate's black.
