“Christmas miracles do happen”

Louie Amendola (Jimmy Durante) is a down-on-his-luck performer who moves his family into a new apartment shortly before Christmas, with no money for a tree and not much hope of a holiday. They don't know that Rupert, a squirrel, lives in the attic rafters above them. Irving Pichel builds the picture around that small figure overhead, watching the Amendolas and the Dingles from the rafters.
