The Great Waldo Pepper

(1975)Directed by George Roy Hill108 min · PGAdventure, Drama
“The second greatest flyer in the world.”

America in the late 1920s is full of surplus biplanes and men who learned to fly in the war. Waldo Pepper (Robert Redford) was kept home from the fighting and barnstorms from town to town alongside Axel Olsson (Bo Svenson), chasing the glory days he never got to have. George Roy Hill shoots the planes and the open fields in a worn, dusty light, a record of an era just starting to be regulated away.
