“Only once in a lifetime... an entertainment so rich... an experience so rewarding...”

A star hangs over Bethlehem, and a decree from King Herod sends soldiers through Egypt to kill every newborn boy. George Stevens follows the child grown into Jesus (Max von Sydow), who is baptized by John the Baptist and gathers followers, among them James the Younger (Michael Anderson Jr.). Their bond is tested at the Last Supper, where Judas is already working against the man who trusts him.
