The Green Elephant

Братишка (Vladimir Yepifantsev) is a Russian soldier locked in a cell with another prisoner, with nothing to do but wait for the next man to come through the door. Svetlana Baskova made the film in 1999, and it was too violent and too foul-mouthed for any ordinary Russian release. The festival that finally screened it in 2005 called it more urgent as the Chechen war escalated and crime spread through the Russian army.
