Barbara Blandish (Kim Darby) is a wealthy young heiress in 1930s Missouri, snatched off the street for ransom by a rural gang of killers. The man in charge, Slim Grissom (Scott Wilson), is unstable and slow-minded, and he keeps her alive at the family farmhouse while the money is arranged. Robert Aldrich shoots the Depression-era violence with a rough, grainy edge, and none of it is polite.
