The Halfway House
In 1944, a group of travellers reaches a country inn in Wales, each carrying a trouble they would rather keep to themselves. The innkeeper Rhys (Mervyn Johns) and his daughter Gwyneth (Glynis Johns) welcome them in, though the newspapers on the shelves are a year old and Gwyneth casts no shadow. Basil Dearden gathers these strangers under one roof to ask whether people get a second chance at the lives they have already made a mess of.
