The Handmaid's Tale

Kate (Natasha Richardson) is a young woman whose fertility has become the most valuable thing about her in a polluted, religious tyranny that has no use for her name. Volker Schlöndorff, working from a Harold Pinter script, puts her in a household under Serena Joy (Faye Dunaway), where she is assigned to bear a child for someone else. The film is about a society that decides what a woman's body is for and then writes that decision into law.
