The Happy Ending

(1969)Directed by Richard Brooks112 min · RDrama
“Marriage is a 30 billion dollar business! And that's just to get married.”

Mary Wilson (Jean Simmons) boards a flight to the Bahamas to get away from her marriage, sixteen years in and already coming apart. Fred (John Forsythe) has had an affair, and Mary has been numbing herself with pills and booze, a mix that nearly killed her the year before. Richard Brooks cuts between the trip and the past as Mary tries to work out where the marriage went wrong, and she goes on looking for it.
