The Heist
“A prison system that does not regenerate, it degenerates.”
Drugs reach three addicted convicts inside Mexico City's Lecumberri prison, passed in by one man's mother, and someone on the inside knows about it. Polonio (Manuel Ojeda) and El Carajo (José Carlos Ruiz) are among those locked in the apando, the punishment cell, where Felipe Cazals keeps the camera close and the air thin. Men who have nothing left but each other still turn on one another, and the film makes that plain.
