“Change begins with a whisper.”

Skeeter Phelan (Emma Stone), a young white journalist in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi, wants to write about the lives of the Black maids who work in her town's homes. She recruits Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) and Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer) to tell their stories, risking everything in a place where such a project is dangerous. The film traces what happens when people speak truths that their world has forced them to keep silent.
