The History of Sound

In 1917, Lionel Worthing (Paul Mescal) and David White (Josh O'Connor) meet as music students in Boston and bond over their shared love of folk songs. A few years later, after the war, they set out together into the backwoods of Maine in the winter of 1920 to collect those songs from the people who sing them. Oliver Hermanus films the two men in plain winter light, letting the cold and the quiet frame their time together.
