“The greatest adventure is what lies ahead...”

In Middle-Earth, a small, comfortable hobbit named Bilbo Baggins (Orson Bean) lives a quiet life until the wizard Gandalf the Grey (John Huston) sends a band of dwarves, led by Thorin (Hans Conried), to his door. Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass made this as a musical for NBC in 1977, with Topcraft doing the animation. Bilbo is pulled into a journey toward a treasure under the Lonely Mountain, a hoard that Smaug (Richard Boone) is guarding.
