The Horseman on the Roof

Angelo Pardi (Olivier Martinez) is a young Italian nobleman and colonel who has come to France in 1832 to raise money for the revolution against Austria. Cholera is spreading through the south, and his path crosses that of Pauline de Théus (Juliette Binoche), a young woman looking for her husband. He offers to help her find him. Jean-Paul Rappeneau, adapting Jean Giono's novel, lets that gallantry carry them across a countryside the disease has emptied.
