Earth has been taken over by parasitic aliens called Souls, and most of humanity now lives with one inside. After Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan) is captured, a Soul named Wanderer is placed in her body, but Melanie's mind refuses to go quiet. The two end up sharing one head, and Andrew Niccol, who adapted Stephenie Meyer's novel, stages the push and pull between them as a running argument over who gets to steer.
