The House of Bernarda Alba

Bernarda Alba (Irene Gutiérrez Caba) buries her husband and decides her five daughters will mourn him by never leaving the house. Mario Camus adapts the Lorca play, keeping its women inside the one residence while Adela (Ana Belén) and her sisters, Angustias, Martirio and the rest, are shut in with the housekeeper Poncia (Florinda Chico). Bernarda enforces her rule with a cane and a straight back, sure the family name is worth more than any daughter's wants.
