The House of the Spirits

Esteban Trueba (Jeremy Irons) wants land, a name and a wife, and he marries Clara (Meryl Streep), a girl who moves objects with her mind and speaks to the dead. They raise a family on his ranch in South America, with his sister Ferula (Glenn Close) in the house and the years turning rough around them. Bille August follows three generations of the family across decades of upheaval in Chile, keeping the camera close to the house.
