The Hudsucker Proxy

“They took him for a fall guy... but he threw them for a hoop.”

Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins), a business school graduate fresh off the bus and full of ambition, wants a seat at the top of a company. He gets one when Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) installs him as president of Hudsucker Industries, a move meant to drive the stock down. Joel and Ethan Coen play it as a screwball comedy, with Jennifer Jason Leigh as the reporter who sniffs around his rise.
