The Human Condition III: A Soldier's Prayer

Kaji (Tatsuya Nakadai) is a Japanese soldier in Manchuria when the army collapses, and he starts walking his few remaining men toward home through enemy territory. He is set on getting back to his wife, Michiko (Michiyo Aratama), and the life they had before the war took him. Masaki Kobayashi follows that long march across the final stretch of his trilogy, where Kaji's promise to her is the only thing he has left to hold onto.
