(1939)Directed by William Dieterle117 minDrama, Romance, Horror
“Impact! Power! Fire! Pathos! Drama!”

Paris, 1482, where King Louis XI rules and Frollo (Cedric Hardwicke) serves as his Chief Justice. Frollo's eye lands on Esmeralda (Maureen O'Hara), a young Romani girl, and he decides her beauty must be the devil's work. William Dieterle puts Quasimodo (Charles Laughton) among the bells of Notre Dame, a bell-ringer alone in the cathedral's heights, the great bronze swinging beside him.
